Our Stone Carver, Ryan Watson (pictured 2nd from left) has to admit that today is one of his favorite days of the year. Watson belongs to Saskatoon's Progress Club, a group of men who's goal is to enhance the spirit of life through community service, in the spirit of fellowship.
Today the clubs members visited St. Michael's school, (as they do annually every December) to serve the children a hot lunch. Seeing the kids faces light up and getting to know them while their bellies fill up are unforgetable moments, ones that Watson never forgets. It's hard to imagine the transformation of a blank rectangular piece of limestone being carved into what you see here until you see it happeing for yourself. So this year, we've decided to open our Carving shop up to the public. All you have to do is email us at contact@roccomasons.com to book a tour to watch our Stone Carver, Ryan Watson in action and experience the art of stone carving for yourself.
As with all carving projects, each starts out as an idea in pencil on paper as shown in the first picture. From there you see the progression of two Indiana limestone acanthus leaf brackets that will be used to support a limestone mantel for a stone fireplace. For a great persepctive on real versus fake stone, check out this article: REAL VS FAKE and in the meantime, stay tuned for updates on this project and more by following us on instagram, facebook and twiiter @rocco_masons. At this time last year we just finished wrapping up the stone work on what was once known as the McDougall Gauley building, a project that we also had the pleasure of designing the Masonry for. This magnificent facade now beautifully houses freshii, RYDE YXE and Una Pizza + Wine.
This winter's carving schedule includes three separate stone pieces for this building as pictured here on Broadway Avenue, along with a family crest in limestone for this homes interior on Sask Cres, headstones, address markers and several fireplaces, all carved by hand using the traditional tools of the trade. So as the Christmas season fast approaches, so does our Stone-Carving season, a time that we look forward to each and every year. Our Stone Carver Ryan Watson, dreams of being able to carve full time, and that time is now! Share our work in suport of a trade that dates back to the beginning of civilization, and follow us on all social media sites for progress on these projects and many more! #stonemasonry #stonecarver |
