What was once a solid, flat, rectangle piece of Indiana limestone has since become a geometric work of art. It's impossible to understand the undertaking of this transformation until you see our Stone Carver, Ryan Watson in action with your own eyes at our carving studio. Bit by bit, and millimeter by millimeter Watson chips away at the limestone with meticulous precision.
Soon a rosette will adorn the top of this fireplace surround and then it's on to the next leg. Stay tuned for the completed hand-carved fireplace surround here, on instagram @rocco_masons or on facebook @roccomasons

Ten years ago Sculptor, Walter Arnold hired our Stone Carver, Ryan Watson to assist him on a restoration project for Chicago's Board of Trade building in the heart of the financial district. The project entailed restoring some of the Limestone Art Deco panels by hand as seen close up in the centre photo and top right.
Ten years to the day the Watson's, Owners of Rocco Masons, returned to Chicago to see the panels installed and to reunite with Walter Arnold as pictured above in his studio, bottom right. Seeing the restored panels up on the building was an extremely proud and unforgettable moment in a city full of undeniable inspiration. Stay tuned for some very impressive projects coming up in 2016, inspired by the windy city. |
